Some cities in Ukraine have imposed curfews or asked residents to work from home and avoid large gatherings.

The U.S. Embassy in Kiev, Ukraine, warned of the possibility of increased Russian attacks in the coming days and continued to urge U.S. citizens to leave immediately if possible.

“The State Department has information that Russia is stepping up attacks on Ukraine’s civilian infrastructure and government agencies in the coming days,” the U.S. Embassy said in a statement posted on its website on Aug. 23.

“The U.S. Embassy urges citizens to leave Ukraine now using available ground transportation, in case it is safe,” the statement added.

On February 11, 2022, more than two weeks before Russia began its special military operation in Ukraine, Washington also called on all US citizens to leave the country within 48 hours due to concerns about the deterioration of the situation.
