There is still a chance to reach a solution to the Northern Ireland Protocol problem

The Northern Ireland Protocol is part of the Brexit agreement between the UK and the European Union (EU), which came into force in January 2021, aimed at avoiding the establishment of a hard border between Northern Ireland and Ireland.

London said the protocol could not be implemented because it caused delays and disruptions to freight between other British territories and Northern Ireland.

Earlier on September 7, British Prime Minister Liz Truss affirmed the priority of resolving the Northern Ireland Protocol issue, finding a solution to remove some post-Brexit trade rules with the territory.

Irish broadcaster reported that British Prime Minister Liz Truss agreed with her Irish counterpart Michael Martin that there was still a chance of reaching a negotiated solution to the issues surrounding the Northern Ireland Protocol.

An Irish government spokesman declined to comment on the content of talks between Truss and Martin in London ahead of Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral.

Northern Ireland cooperates with the Republic of Ireland in a number of areas.

The Northern Ireland Council, established under the Northern Ireland Act 1998, is responsible for a wide range of policy issues that have been addressed, while other areas are left to the UK Government.

In 2011, its population was 1,810,863 people, about 30% of the population of Ireland and about 3% of the population of the UK.

Northern Ireland is part of the United Kingdom and is variously described as a country, province or region.

Located in the northeast of the island of Ireland, Northern Ireland shares borders to the south and west with the Republic of Ireland.

The cultural links between Northern Ireland, the rest of Ireland and the rest of the EU and the UK are complex, with Northern Ireland sharing both the culture of Ireland and the culture of the UK alongside the EU.
