Nuclear: Iran continues its progress on uranium enrichment
Iran said Sunday that it had produced uranium enriched to 20% the day before for the first time via this device, according to Behrouz Kamalvandi, spokesman for the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI).
This is “the last technical step” of a process already announced at the IAEA in June, added the official on state television Irib, accusing the media of “amplifying” and instrumentalizing information.
Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid was quick to react, calling for a “clear response from the international community” and “maximum sanctions” against Tehran.
The UN nuclear gendarme is responsible for verifying and monitoring the implementation of the commitments made by Iran in 2015 in Vienna with the major powers.
But following the withdrawal in 2018 of the United States under the leadership of Donald Trump and the reinstatement of sanctions, Tehran has gradually freed itself from its obligations.
