Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle will remain in the UK until the state funeral of Queen Elizabeth II, who died on September 8 at Balmoral Castle, Scotland, ends.
The two returned to England on September 3 for some charity events and arrived in Germany on September 6 to warm up for the 2023 Invictus Games.
The couple are now considering asking Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland, to bring their children Archie and Lilibet back to the UK to mourn their grandfather.
Harry said a decade in the military was not reflected in uniform, after King Charles III decided only members working for the royal family would wear the outfit at the Queen’s funeral.
“Prince Harry will wear a suit during funeral events in honour of his grandmother.
The prince’s 10 years of military service are not represented by his uniform, and we respectfully ask that everyone focus on the life and legacy of Queen Elizabeth II,” a spokesperson for the Duke of Sussex said.
The statement came after King Charles III decided that only members working for the royal family could wear military uniforms during the queen’s national mourning.
This means Harry, the king’s youngest son, will have to wear a suit despite having served 10 years in the military.
Prince Andrew, the Queen’s third child, must also abide by the decision.
However, Andrew was allowed to wear his uniform during the final vigil in Westminster Hall, when the Queen’s 4 children stood guard on 4 sides of the coffin. This exception is intended to show “respect for the Queen”.
On 9/12, Prince Harry paid tribute to the late Queen on his and his wife’s Archewell page account, praising his grandmother as a “guideline”.
“Madam, while this final farewell has left us deeply saddened, I will be forever grateful for our first meetings – from my earliest childhood memories with her, when I first met her as Commander-in-Chief, her first meeting with the wife I loved or when she hugged her great-grandchildren.
I cherish the time with her, and so many other special moments. Not only us, but the whole world, will remember her. Thank you for her service, her advice, and her infectious smile.
We will also smile knowing that you and I are now reunited, at peace together,” Harry wrote.
In the same statement, Harry referred to his father, saying he “honours him in his new role – King Charles III”.
