Moscow added that Russian troops killed 8 Ukrainian warplanes in airstrikes on air bases in Ukraine’s Poltava and Dnipropetrovsk regions.
On August 25, the Russian Defense Ministry said Russian forces attacked a military train at the Chaplyne railway station in Ukraine’s Dnipropetrovsk region on August 24, on the same day Ukraine celebrated its National Day.
Ukraine said 25 civilians were killed in the attack and accused Moscow of targeting residential areas. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky vowed to make Russia pay for the attack.
“Chaplyne is our pain today,” Zelensky said on Aug. 24.
According to the Russian Defense Ministry, Russian forces used an Iskander missile to attack a military train in Chaplyne, as it prepared to deliver weapons to the front line in the Donbass region of eastern Ukraine.
The attack came after Kiev warned Russian forces could step up attacks on the occasion of Ukraine’s National Day.
