“House of the Dragon” became the biggest premiere ever on HBO

In Europe, “House of the Dragon” is available to stream on HBO Max. No viewing figures have been released.

Before long, the fight between this fall’s two major fantasy series begins. But “House of the Dragon” has just gotten a strong head start.

U.S. media reported record numbers in the U.S. on Monday, when nearly 10 million viewers watched the premiere of George R.R. Martin’s new series “House of the Dragon,” on cable television and streaming.

The sheer interest in the prequel to “Game of Thrones” has prompted HBO to brag about its best-ever premiere.

  • It was wonderful to see millions of “Game of Thrones” fans return with us to Westeros yesterday. We’re in ecstasy at the audience’s positive response, and look forward to sharing with you what George, Ryan and Miguel have in store for the rest of the season,” content manager Casey Boys told TV Line.

Ryan Condal and Miguel Sapochnik are showrunners on the show set 200 years before the events of “Game of Thrones.”

At the center is the Targaryen family where an internal power struggle breaks out over who should succeed the king and take over the Iron Throne.
