Liverpool have not won a game through three rounds, only two points and dropped to 17th.
Jurgen Klopp’s men are five points behind heavyweights City, and seven points ahead of leaders Arsenal.
In the next round, Liverpool will return home to Bournemouth on 27/8.
Former defender Jamie Carragher does not believe Liverpool can race for the Premier League title this season, after losing 1-2 to Man Utd and dropping to 16th.
“Right now, the gap is huge. But Liverpool can’t think about the race against City at the moment,” according to Carragher after the game.
“I didn’t expect Liverpool to start the season so badly.
They set very high standards, and are now a million miles away from that. Liverpool need to get back on track quickly.”
At Old Trafford, Liverpool could not improve their form compared to the first two draws against Fulham and Crystal Palace, allowing Man Utd to dominate and create many chances.
After finishing off the post in the 10th minute, Anthony Elanga provided the assist for Jadon Sancho to open the scoring six minutes later.
