Barca – Man City: Waiting for Lewandowski to compete against Haaland

Strikers Robert Lewandowski and Erling Haaland will play when Barca play a friendly against City at Camp Nou today.

The two strikers were rivals in Germany when Lewandowski played for Bayern, while Haaland served Dortmund.

Both are in high form and integrate quickly with the new team. The Polish striker scored a brace against Sociedad in the 2nd round of La Liga, while Haaland also had three goals for City in the Premier League.

This match was the eighth confrontation between the two strikers and the first to take place outside the borders of Germany. Seven times before, Lewandowski’s Bayern have all beaten Haaland’s Dortmund.

The Polish striker scored a total of 9 goals, including 5 in the Bundesliga and 2 goals in the German Super Cup matches.

Meanwhile, Haaland “only” scored 5 goals.

It was the first encounter between the two teams since 2016 when Ilkay Gundogan scored a brace to help City beat Barca 3-1 in the Champions League.

But today’s game means something else, less competitive and more community.

It aims to donate to the Luzon Charitable Foundation, saving former Barca goalkeeper Juan Carlos Unzue from a rare disease – amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).

Unzue is a former teammate of pep guardiola, who was also his assistant during his four years as manager at Barca, where Guardiola won 14 trophies.

“This is an honor for me,” the 51-year-old coach said in June 2022.
