Ukraine suspects Russia wants to negotiate to buy time for a new offensive

Ukraine’s presidential adviser said the country has a realistic view, while Russia does not want serious negotiations but “tries to postpone the operation before launching a new offensive”.

“All other scenarios represent a dangerous postponement of the operation in the face of a new offensive,” Podolyak said, adding that Ukraine “will resist to the end as long as necessary.”

Ukraine has rejected negotiations over territories controlled by Russia, instead claiming it wants to retake the region, as well as those controlled by separatists and Crimea, the Peninsula Russia annexed in 2014.

Podolyak said Russia sends its proposals through various intermediaries, but did not name them because Kiev has no political ties to Moscow.

Russia has not commented on Ukraine’s information.

Russia launched a special military operation on February 24 aimed at demilitarizing and de-fascism Ukraine. In the early weeks of hostilities, Russia and Ukraine held talks that yielded no concrete results.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has repeatedly said he is ready to mediate talks between Russia and Turkey.
