Why does NASA want to send people back to the Moon after 50 years?
All targets for the Artemis flight will test the elements needed for orion to carry people into deep space, including safe flight, sls rocket performance, heat shield testing and recovery of spacecraft landing in the Pacific Ocean off San Diego.
The Orion will not carry people on its first mission, but will collect data from the flight, including sensors mounted on 30 vehicles that simulate what humans will experience.
The data from the sensor will reveal how much vibration they experienced, the level of radiation exposure and the usefulness of the flight suit.
Nearly 5 decades after the last Apollo mission in 1972, NASA established a program to land humans in unexplored areas on the Moon.
