Lebanon: More grain silos in the port of Beirut collapsed

Minister of Public Works Ali Hamieh announced that the government has agreed to set aside 25,000m2 in the port to build new grain silos.

This area is 4,000m2 larger than the current complex.

Summer heat has caused grains at the fermentation silo warehouse to smolder since July, with part of the silo collapsed on July 31 and another part collapsed on Aug. 4.

On August 23, 8 more grain silos in the northern Lebanese port of Beirut collapsed.

This is the 3rd silo collapse in the past month at the silo storage cluster, which was damaged after a devastating explosion in the port of Beirut in 2020.
