Mozambique’s food security authorities confirmed that there are partners who are coordinating to support areas with more severe food insecurity.
Armed conflicts cause people to leave their fields, and irregular rainfall can be the cause of food shortages in Mozambique.
On August 22, Mozambique’s food security authorities warned that at least 900,000 people could face food insecurity in the country’s northern Cabo Delgado province.
Speaking to reporters after a meeting of the 11th Advisory Council of the Technical Secretariat for Food Security and Nutrition in the capital Maputo, Executive Secretary Leonor Mondlane said her agency was on alert and monitoring the situation.
Mozambique’s food security authorities added that armed conflicts that cause people to leave their fields, irregular rainfall and other factors in Cabo Delgado can lead to food shortages.
“The situation will improve in the coming days, as a number of actions are being taken in different parts of the country, including where displaced people are receiving various agricultural inputs,” she said.
