The first dog infected with monkeypox suspected of being transmitted from humans

Despite the availability of vaccines and treatments, experts fear the new outbreak will allow the virus to spread continuously and sustainably in humans.

A dog in France may have contracted monkeypox from its owner, the first case of the virus being transmitted from humans to animals.

The case was reported by infectious disease doctors at the Pitié-Salpêtrière Hospital in Paris in the Lancet on 10/8.

On June 10, two men were hospitalized with symptoms of monkeypox, namely a rash with headaches, weakness and fever.

Like the majority of monkey smallpox infections recorded this year, two patients contracted the virus through close contact during sexual contact.

Both said they had sex with others, developing a rash about a week later. PCR testing showed they had monkeypox.
