Ahead of the London derby against Tottenham today 14/8, Chelsea coach Thomas Tuchel admitted the opponent is ahead by recruiting many quality recruits in the summer of 2022.
While Chelsea suffered major disturbances at the top of the order in the change of ownership, Tottenham were much more stable and uplifted by their return to the Champions League.
Tottenham also had a successful summer transfer window, spending $ 120 million to recruit striker Richarlison, midfielders Yves Bissouma, Ivan Perisic, defenders Djed Spence, Clement Lenglet and goalkeeper Fraser Forster.
“Tottenham have taken very good advantage of the situation to strengthen their forces. It looked like they were ahead of Chelsea from the start of the race.
But that doesn’t mean they’re going to win the whole race,” Tuchel said on Aug. 13 at a press conference ahead of the Premier League round 2 match.
According to the German coach, Chelsea will have to try to find solutions to reach their highest level and win the derby against Tottenham today, in order to create momentum for the next stage.
“Early games like this can also be helpful, when it comes to helping to motivate the players,” Tuchel added.
