The attacker fired about 5 shots inside Canberra’s main airport, causing panicked passengers to flee, before being arrested by police.
Video shared on social media Today showed a policeman restraining the man lying on the train station floor as an emergency alarm sounded at the Australian capital’s main airport.
Police said the man was arrested, while the gun was recovered.
Detective Inspector Dave Craft said the suspect entered the airport in the early afternoon and sat near a large glass window, waiting for about 5 minutes before pulling out his gun and “firing about 5 rounds.”
The airport was evacuated and closed, causing some flights to be delayed.
Passenger Helen said she saw the man “shoot up into the air”, not far from the check-in counter.
