Mbappe missed the penalty, PSG still ‘won’

When PSG led Montpellier 2-0 at the Parc des Princes on the evening of August 13, the hosts counterattacked quickly.

Midfielder Vitinha leads the ball to the middle of the pitch, with the option of passing left to Mbappe or to the right to Lionel Messi.

He turned the ball to the right, at the same time, Mbappe swung his arms in the air, then turned his back to the ball, walking in the opposite direction.

The ball went to Messi’s feet, then Vitinha before being poked into the penalty area for defender Hakimi to shoot off the post. Mbappe remained stationary near the centre of the pitch.

Earlier, when the score was not open, Mbappe missed PSG’s penalty. He shot wide and dangerously to the right, but goalkeeper Jonas Omlin spilled the ball away.

When PSG received a second penalty in the 43rd minute, Neymar won the penalty and made it 2-0.

In the second half, Mbappe also scored from Neymar’s corner, to make the score 4-1. But he neither laughed, nor celebrated the goal.
