Egypt church fire kills at least 41 people

A fire broke out Thursday at a Coptic Christian church in Cairo, Egypt, killing 41 people and injuring several.

Most of the victims killed were children.

On his Facebook page, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi announced that he had “mobilized all relevant authorities in the administration to take action to ensure that all necessary measures are taken.”

The fire department later announced the fire was under control.

Coptic Orthodoxy is the Middle East’s largest Christian community, accounting for at least 10 million of Egypt’s 103 million people.

Egypt is the most populous country in the Arab world with a majority Muslim population.
