On August 8, the Ministry of Health confirmed that homosexuality is not a disease, so it cannot be “cured”, does not need “cure” but only psychological support.
“Homosexual, bisexual or transgender diseases are not considered as diseases, so they cannot intervene or force treatment, but only provide psychological support and are carried out by people with knowledge of gender identity,” the Ministry of Health stated and proposed that medical examination and treatment establishments must be equal and respectful of gender, non-discrimination, stigma.
This view was made by the Ministry of Health after receiving feedback from the Community Network Support Program (SCDI) about some medical facilities and doctors promoting it as “curing gay diseases”.
The Ministry of Health did not name the unit or individual involved, but denied the “cure” information.
On May 17, 1990, the World Health Organization (WHO) removed homosexuality from its list of mental illnesses.
Since 1994, homosexuality is no longer considered a disease, which is not included in the DSM table 5 – Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders.
