Signs of iron deficiency in the body
A less common symptom of iron deficiency is brittle or spoon-shaped nails.
This condition is also called koilonychia.
Most often, the first signs are brittle nails, brittleness and cracking.
In the later stages of iron deficiency, spoon-shaped nails may appear, that is, the middle part of the nail is recessed, the raised edges look rounded like a spoon.
However, this is a rare side effect, occurring only in about 5% of people with severe iron deficiency.
