Ear infections can cause temporary hearing loss

Ear infections can cause hearing problems that last several days and usually return to normal when the disease goes into remission.

The middle ear is responsible for conducting sound from the eardrum to the inner ear through the baby bones.

Ear infections can lead to temporary swelling and or discharge in the middle ear.

This affects the way sound travels through the ears, leading to hearing problems. This can be triggered by bacteria, viruses, allergies.

The two most common types of bacteria are Streptococcus pneumoniae and Haemophilus influenzae.

Viruses (such as viruses that cause the common cold or flu), bacteria can move up these tubes into the middle ear, usually during or immediately after a respiratory illness.
