Ministry of Health: 'Facial osteochondrosis is not a strange disease'

Representatives of hospitals said that the number of cases increased abnormally, increasing the number of people with necrosis of the upper jaw, skull bones, and maxillary area.

On July 14, the Ministry of Health asked hospitals to study and report on these cases.

Commenting on the causes of facial cranial osteochondrosis after Covid-19, Egyptian scientist Haytham Al-Mahalawy.

Head of the Department of Odontology and The Department of Maxillofacial Surgery, said jaw necrosis can be traced back to the use of corticosteroids; patients with opportunistic infections caused by bacteria, fungi; or have a chronic underlying medical condition such as diabetes.

Mr. Haytham Al-Mahalawy’s research is published in the BMC Journal of Infectious Diseases.
