The fact that the German government had to save the nation’s leading energy company – Uniper shows the inflexibility and vulnerability of this industry.
On July 22, Mr. Scholz stressed the Uniper bailout was necessary because the energy company was “of primary importance to the economic development of the country”.
Energy prices will also rise in October, when the government imposes special tariffs to divide the price burden between companies and consumers.
It is expected that a household of four will cost an additional 200 to 300 euros per year for energy costs.
