Prolonged Covid-19 patients still have the virus in their blood
The researchers said in the journal Clinical Infection Diseases that recurrent Covid-19 symptoms after Paxlovid treatment may occur because insufficient amounts of the drug reach the infected cells;
it may also be because the drug is metabolized or processed at different rates in each person’s body.
The study also concluded post-Covid-19 in children with more symptoms but not dangerous.
The results were based on a survey of nearly 11,000 mothers whose children were infected and nearly 33,000 mothers whose children were uninfected.
While symptoms associated with Covid-19 persist such as headaches, mood swings, abdominal pain, and fatigue, children with persistent Covid-19 develop even more symptoms.
Surprisingly, these children had fewer psychological problems than those in the control group.
The team speculates this may be because uninfected children have more fear of covid-19.
Some prolonged cases of Covid-19 may be the immune system’s response to SARS-CoV-2 in the blood.
