Young people with Instagram and TikTok put Google on the move; why?

By the end of 2021, children and teens were recorded consuming 91 minutes a day of TikTok, compared to 56 minutes per day they spent watching YouTube.

Although Google Search has always been considered the search engine par excellence of millions of people around the world, for the young population between 18 and 24 years old, this platform does not manage to hook them enough, leading them to migrate to more visual solutions such as Instagram or TikTok.

“Something like 40 percent of young people, when they look for a place to eat, don’t go to Google Maps or Search. They go to TikTok or Instagram.

This process begins in different ways than before, with visual formats,” explained Google Vice President Prabhakar Raghavan during the Brainstorm Tech conference based on a survey conducted by the company in the United States.

As a way to conquer the hearts of this young audience, Google is betting on the development of visual products that are ‘more digestible’ with technologies based on Artificial Intelligence (AI), such as Google Lens.
