After three minutes of full-body convulsions, the 25-year-old, who was paralyzed in her left half, went to the doctor to find stage 4 metastatic lung cancer.
Medical experts said that two days before entering the hospital, the patient developed a full-body seizure for three minutes and then numbness in the left half.
Previously, the patient did not have symptoms such as fever, chest pain, shortness of breath, coughing up blood … The family history is not unusual.
The patient was hospitalized with left-hand paralysis. The results of the mri scan from the skull detected a brain tumor in the right frontal lobe area, necrosis, bleeding, edema of the surrounding brain.
The patient continued to have a computed tomography scan of the chest, detecting images of lobe tumors on the left lung.
The doctor determined that this case had metastatic lung cancer of the brain.
“With the damage to the brain metastasis causing compression that leads to seizures several times a day and bleeding in the tumor, the team decided to have emergency surgery to remove the brain tumor,” the doctor said, on June 22.
After surgery, the patient was transferred to the Center for Nuclear Medicine and Oncology, Hospital for chemotherapy treatment in coordination with targeted treatment.
After a month, she is awake, does not appear convulsions, does not have chest pain, does not have difficulty breathing, does not have headaches, the paralysis of the left half improves gradually.
Six months later, the tumor on the patient’s lungs decreased in size, with no further brain damage.
Currently, the girl’s health is more stable, not weak, living normally, continuing to transmit chemicals according to the regimen.
According to the Global Cancer Foundation (GLOBOCAN), lung cancer it is the second most common cancer in the world (accounting for 11.4%) with about 2.2 million new cases in 2020.
The death rate from lung cancer is the highest of all cancers, with nearly 1.8 million deaths during the year.
In Vietnam alone, lung cancer is in second place after liver cancer with about 26,000 new cases and 23,000 deaths each year.
