Hungary announced this week. state of emergency in terms of energy in response to supply disruptions and soaring energy prices in Europe.

The country will increase its domestic energy production capacity, ban energy exports and increase the working time of a single nuclear power plant.

The EU has imposed six packages of sanctions against Moscow, excluding most Russian banks from the SWIFT international payment system, confiscating the assets of Russian oligarchs and officials, controlling exports of goods and banning the import of Russian coal and oil. The bloc is preparing for a new round of sanctions, which could target Russian gold.

However, some EU officials say Russian billionaires can still live well without yachts or assets in the West, while controlling exports of Russian goods could benefit China or other countries.

Hungarian Prime Minister Orban said the EU “shot itself in the lungs” when imposing sanctions on Russia, which could lead to the risk of destroying the European economy.

“At first, I thought we were just shooting ourselves in the foot, but now it’s clear that the European economy is shooting itself in the lungs and is breathing fast,” he said.

Hungary Viktor Orban said on July 15, referring to a series of sanctions against the European Union (EU) targeting Russia.
