Dembele takes pay cut to stay at Barca
Barca bought Dembele in 2017 for a total cost of $175 million, making him the third most expensive player in the world after Neymar and Kylian Mbappe.
However, the contribution of the player born in 1997 is quite limited, mainly because he is often injured.
In the 2021-2022 season, Dembele scored only one goal, contributing 13 assists in 21 La Liga appearances.
He will have to compete for places with Ansu Fati, Ferran Torres and rookie Raphinha.
On July 14, after long negotiations, Barca reached an agreement on a two-year extension with French winger Ousmane Dembele.
On Twitter, Barca post a video Dembele removed the number 2022 on the board, replaced by 2024, representing the duration of his new contract.
Dembele became a free agent after his former contract expired on June 30. But Xavi convinced the Barca board to keep the France international.
