The United States -Trump phone call with January 6 witness reported to Justice
Both Trump and the U.S. Department of Justice have not yet responded to Cheney’s statements.
Washington – Former president Donald Trump recently tried to contact an unnamed witness who appeared before the House committee that is investigating the riots in the Capitol of January 6, 2021.
The committee referred Trump’s possible attempt to influence a witness, which is unlawful, to the Justice Department.
That said Tuesday the Republican vice president of the panel, Liz Cheney.
The witness did not answer Trump’s call, but did inform his or her lawyer, Cheney said.
The lawyer then notified the investigation panel. The call came after the committee’s penultimate hearing, on June 28.
“Let me say it again: we take any attempt to influence the testimony of witnesses very seriously,” Cheney said.
Cheney made her revelation toward the end of the hearing on Tuesday.
In it, the violent rhetoric of Trump in the weeks leading up to January 6 was central, Special attention was paid to Trump’s tweet on the night of December 19, 2020, in which he promised a “wild” protest.
That tweet followed what was described as an “unhinged” rally in which White House lawyers and Trump allies yelled at each other for hours.
