Austrian Grand Prix (Formula 1)– Verstappen wins the sprint in Austria, Perez comeback to the points
Max Emilian Verstappen is a Belgian-Dutch racing driver and the 2021 Formula One World Champion. He competes under the Dutch flag in Formula One with Red Bull Racing.
While Valtteri Bottas finished 10th he has a penalty for over-replacement of parts in his power unit set before Friday’s qualifying so he will start last.
Max Verstappen achieved his third victory in the sprint races by winning the second of this modality in the 2022 Formula 1 season at the Austrian Grand Prix, in a competition where Sergio Pérez came back to finish fifth.
The race began with a bit of chaos with two incidents that forced to remove one lap of the 24 agreed.
The first when Fernando Alonso’s Alpine was removed from the grid for still carrying the tire heaters, and then completely aborted the start when the Alfa Romeo of Guanyu Zhou was stopped.
When the traffic lights finally went out the excitement focused on the Ferraris.
Charles Leclerc tried to overtake poleman Max Verstappen, but this contest was taken advantage of by Carlos Sainz to take the second position by a few meters before the Monegasque recovered it.
This small battle allowed the championship leader and Red Bull Racing driver to take off.
Sergio Perez jumped from 13th to eighth place, behind George Russell’s Mercedes, Esteban Ocon’s Alpine and the Haas of Kevin Magnussen and Mick Schumacher.
