Are you going to France this summer? The health pass remains compulsory at the border

When unvaccinated travellers come from an “orange” list country, they must continue to present a compelling reason justifying the need to come to metropolitan France and may still be subjected to a random test upon arrival.

Travelers who test positive will have to self-isolate, in accordance with the recommendations of the Health Insurance.

Since March 14, however, this pass is no longer required in restaurants and leisure areas.

It is still necessary to go to a health facility, to retirement homes or facilities for people who are fragile or disabled.

The World Health Organization (WHO) told AFP on Thursday it expected “high levels” of Covid-19 this summer in Europe and called for close monitoring of the virus after a tripling of daily cases over the past month.

“Since countries across Europe have lifted the social measures that were in place, the virus will circulate at high levels over the summer,” said hans Kluge, director for Europe of the UN organization.

Mask in transport, vaccination pass to present at the restaurant or cinema…

Many European countries have abandoned most of the restrictions issued during the health crisis.

Yet some persist.

In France, for example, the vaccination pass remains mandatory upon entry into the country.

Regardless of the country of origin, travellers wishing to travel to France must therefore be able to present this document.

Here are the rules that apply to the French border, as indicated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs:

  • For vaccinated travellers within the meaning of European regulations, it is necessary to be able to prove its complete vaccination schedule. This includes a basic vaccination certificate (1/1 dose or 2/2 dose) the last dose of which was administered less than 9 months ago.

Or a booster vaccination certificate. Booster vaccination is valid indefinitely.

  • For unvaccinated travelers, the obligation to present a negative test to travel to France remains, but the measures on arrival (test, isolation) are lifted when they come from countries on the “green” list, characterized by moderate circulation of the virus.
