The new quarantine rules have been particularly welcomed by American, British and European business groups in China.

“Hopefully, the move will help boost trade and stem the flow of international workers, some of whom have been separated from family and friends for the third year running,” the British Chamber of Commerce in China told the media.

The quarantine has been shortened from two weeks to seven days, and follow-up at home will take only three days, instead of seven days, the National Health Commission said.

Adherence to strict measures, even at a time when most of the world has already eased them, has damaged China’s economy.

Many millions of people have found themselves in severe lockdowns in cities like Shanghai.

Earlier this month, China’s aviation regulator said it was in contact with some countries and was trying to arrange for the number of flights to gradually increase in the second half of the year.
