Another racist case in F1. Verstappen’s father-in-law attacked Hamilton
On the Motorsport Talk podcast, which was released in November 2021, he referred to Lewis Hamilton as “neguinho”, which means “nigger” in Brazilian slang.
Piquet spoke in an interview with Ricardo Oliveira (a Brazilian footballer) about the collision between the Mercedes driver and Max Verstappen at last year’s British Grand Prix.
Verstappen experienced a 53G crash into a barrier on the Silverstone track and had to be taken by ambulance to hospital. Hamilton, despite a ten-second penalty, eventually finished first.
Although the interview originated more than half a year ago on broadcast platforms, it was published only yesterday.
The silver arrow driver was immediately supported by Formula 1 and his team.
“Discriminatory or racist vocabulary is unacceptable in any form and has no place in society. Lewis is a great ambassador for our sport and he deserves respect.
His tireless efforts to improve diversity and inclusion are a lesson for many and something we are committed to in F1,” the Formula 1 directorate said.
“We strongly condemn any use of racist or discriminatory language. Lewis is at the forefront of our sport’s fight against racism and is a true champion of diversity on and off the track.
We share a common vision of the diverse world of motorsport and this incident underscores the importance of continuing this effort.”
Another case related to racism is moving the world of Formula 1. Last year’s interview with three-time world champion Nelson Piquet was leaked.
In it, the former Brazilian racer referred to Lewis Hamilton as “neguinho”. The Mercedes driver was supported by his team and Formula 1 racing headquarters.
It’s been about a week since junior racer Jüri Vips’ trouble.
The Red Bull Driver Academy pilot uttered the word “nigger” during the Online Streaming broadcast of Call Of Duty on twitch.
The team subsequently suspended its competitor for racist insult and launched an internal investigation.
As soon as the case of the young Estonian pilot was forgotten, another one came to light.
The main protagonist this time is three-time world champion Nelson Piquet, a former Brazilian racer and father of Kelly, a friend of Max Verstappen.
