Police found at least 46 dead in a truck in Texas

The second most populous city in the U.S. state of Texas has seen similar cases in the past. In 2017, ten migrants died after being trapped in a truck parked outside a Walmart store in San Antonio.

In 2003, 19 migrants were found in a truck southeast of the city.

Large trucks became a popular method of smuggling in the early 90s of the 20th century in connection with the increase in control of the U.S. borders in San Diego and El Paso, Texas, which were the busiest corridors for illegal crossings at the time.

Similar cases have shaken Europe in the past. British police found 39 Vietnamese migrants dead in a lorry in essex in the south-east of England in 2019.

In June 2000, police found 58 Chinese refugees dead in a truck in the British port of Dover.

The worst tragedy of its kind in Europe was the discovery of a parked refrigerated car near the Austrian village of Parndorf in August 2015, where police discovered 71 dead bodies in an advanced stage of decomposition.

More than 16 other people, including four children, were found alive and taken to hospitals, the fire chief said.

Among the dead are women and men and no children. One dead man was found outside the vehicle.

The truck was supposed to be designed to transport frozen goods, according to the fire chief, but according to the fire chief, “it did not have a visible working air conditioning unit” and there was no water inside.
