A space cannibal is raging in space, NASA has shown. A collapsed star devours surrounding bodies
While G238-44 will never shine through the universe again, the lifetime of our Sun is still about five billion years, according to scientists.
Apparently no one on Earth would want to live to see the moment when the sun goes out.
But there are many extinct stars in the far universe – so-called white dwarfs – on which scientists can observe what such a process would look like.
Experts analyzed data from the Hubble Space Telescope and found that the atmosphere of the white dwarf G238-44, which is many decades away from us, sucks in the surrounding materials and “eats” the bodies even from distant corners of the galaxy.
