Kidney stones normally form in the kidney and pass out of the body in the urine stream. A small stone can pass without causing symptoms
Kidney stone disease, also known as nephrolithiasis or urolithiasis, is when a solid piece of material (kidney stone) develops in the urinary tract.
Kidney stones can cause you to lose sleep every night with unbearable pain. This condition can be caused by many factors, but it is important to recognize the symptoms early for timely treatment.
Dr. Atul Ingale, Director of the Department of Nephrology, Fortis Hiranandani Hospital, shared how to recognize kidney stones at an early stage.
What is kidney stones?
Dr Ingale said: “Kidney stones are complex collections of salts and minerals that are usually made up of calcium or uric acid. They form inside the kidneys and can even move to other parts of the urinary tract.
Kidney stones form when too many minerals accumulate in your urine. When people don’t drink enough water, their urine becomes more concentrated with higher levels of certain minerals, which then leads to kidney stones.”
