FIFA to increase the number of players attending the 2022 World Cup
FIFA is a non-profit organization that describes itself as an international governing body for association football, futsal and beach soccer. It is the highest governing body of association football.
To adapt to the timing of the game and Covid-19, each team is allowed to register 26 players at the 2022 World Cup, three more than usual.
Explaining this decision, FIFA said that because the tournament was played in late November and early December, when the championships were taking place, the teams needed more contingencies.
Besides, the impact of Covid-19 on the player’s fitness is also part of the cause.
“The maximum number of players on the preliminary list was increased from 35 to 55.
The number of players on the final list has been increased to a minimum of 23 and a maximum of 26,” FIFA said in a statement.
“The players called up by the team for the World Cup will play their final match at the club on November 13.
